RECORD FINE (£45,000) imposed by Welsh Magistrates for poor fire safety standards

Lack of a fire risk assessment lead to nine breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Shortcomings included no appropraite working fire alarm, no emergency lighting and blocked fire exits.
Each breach at the time (July 2014) was handed the maximum penalty available to the Welsh Magistrates' (£5000) however, recent changes in law means that businesses who commit similar offences can be faced with considerably higher penalties.
